AnimeIowa AMV Contest 2012 Rules

**Exceptions to some of the following rules will be up to the discretion of the AMV Head.**
**No exceptions will be made in regards to the submission of highly sexual and/or hentai videos.**

  1. The AnimeIowa AMV Contest is open to all registered attendees and staff members of the con. A winning contestant must be present at the convention in order to receive any prize or award related to the AMV contest.
  2. Contestants may enter up to 3 videos in the judged contest. If you enter multiple videos please indicate which one or two videos you want us to prioritize for entry into the contest for judging. If cuts need to be made, we’ll cut the lower priority video(s) first.
  3. Each entry may not exceed 5 minutes in running time. A few seconds over is acceptable. Exceptions will be considered but are NOT guaranteed.
  4. All entries must be playable with the latest version of VLC and/or Zoom player available at the time of submission and must be a resolution of at least 640×480. Some preferred video types are; avi, mpeg, mp4, wmv. Do your best to keep file sizes reasonable. If either of these is not possible, please use the email below to contact the AMV Heads, Lindsay or Corissa.
  5. NO HENTAI VIDEO AT ALL! We do not accept videos with nudity or references to sexual actions.
  6. No Music with swearing, drug references, or anything else explicit in nature. This is a family con, keep that in mind when sending in your AMV(s). All songs must be PG-13 or lower to be considered for the competition. Please check ratings for all songs, and if they are not immediately appropriate, you may edit them so that they are (which means, removing/bleeping words, relatively easy with the free audio program Audacity) Check out the Music Video area in the Forum for help.
  7. Subtitles in your videos are NOT allowed. Any video entered that contains subtitles from subbed anime will be disqualified. They only distract the viewer. Please contact us if you have questions about your video and any subtitle qualms. Don’t know how to remove subtitles in your videos? Check out the Music Video area in the Forum for help.
  8. Credits are allowed in your videos, Yet you must follow either of two regulations.
    1. Credits will be a short 3-5 second roll/showing of your video, At the End, not the start.
    2. Credits will be shown in the left or right bottom corner, ie like Music Videos seen on TV today. This can be at the start and/or end of the video.
  9. Your entry in the contest does not guarantee that the video will be shown during the AMV event. We screen all videos to make sure the content is acceptable for our viewing audience.
  10. All submissions must be an original composition of the contestant. Submitting the composition of another will be grounds for disqualification of all films submitted by that contestant.
  11. All physical materials sent as part of the entry process, including paperwork and physical media, will become the property of AnimeIowa and will NOT be returned.
  12. Judging of entries will be conducted prior to the con by a panel of judges.
This judging round will select winners for:

    • Best in Show
    • Comedy
    • Drama
    • Romance
    • Action
    • Category X (Videos that are not genre specific or fall under multiple genres)
    • Trailer (as in movie trailer)
  13. Winners for these awards will be announced during the AMV contest event on Saturday.
  14. When you submit a video, Please make sure that you categorize it within the above 6 categories. If you don’t we will just assume one category by what we think is best. Its best of you just tell us which you want, so that we don’t assimilate it to the wrong category.
  15. Submissions will be open to the public on Monday, April 2, 2012
  16. Ending Date: All entries must be postmarked or submitted no later than Friday, July 6, 2012.
