Thank You For An Amazing AnimeIowa 2016!

It barely feels like a year has come and gone since we started working on the preparations for AnimeIowa 2016 – AnimeIowa Levels Up!, and now the convention is already over. So as we wrap up this year’s convention and begin to prepare for the next, we just want to take the time to say

“Thank You!”

Thank you to our wonderful staff, without whom we wouldn’t be able to run this convention. Together we overcame challenges, but in the end you did a phenomenal job in keeping things going. So let us say: we did it!
Thank you to our amazing volunteers, who helped us with tasks that ranged from the mundane to the insane. You are the unsung heroes of the convention. For all your help you have our gratitude.
Thank you to the many talented Guests of Honor, who came and rocked the convention. Without your works, out there every day, we would not have a reason to Celebrate Anime and Asian culture.
Thank you to our artists, merchants, and photographers, who have ensured that attendees and staff got to take home a piece of AnimeIowa 2016 and its memories in one way or another.

And finally,

Thank you to our enthusiastic attendees. It is your love of anime and Japanese culture that has kept this convention going twenty AnimeIowa’s strong. We are so grateful of the support shown to AI by those attending past and present; you are truly the best attendees that any convention could ask for.

So while we are closing out AnimeIowa 2016, do not fear, for we are leveling up once more for our twenty-first con! So please come join us next year on July 28-30, 2017 back here at the Coralville Marriott, where you can journey into our next theme of the Dark Carnival of Pigs!

Forum Art Contest 2016

This year’s convention theme is AnimeIowa Levels Up!  Celebrating the 20th year of AnimeIowa!  So we invite everyone to take a deep breath, focus their chakra, and enter our…:

“Buu-chan Levels Up” Forum Art Contest

We need you to show us how Buu-chan (our cosplaying piggy mascot) levels up or transforms.  Is Buu-chan a powerful fighter, increasing his energy when necessary?  A magical pig, changing in time of crisis?  A gamer, advancing his character?  Or just going hog wild?   Unleash your art skills and amaze us with Buu-chan’s evolution, to win fame and cash prizes!  For full contest details, please visit our contest info thread on the AnimeIowa Forums.

Mini Festival: A Figure, Model, and Doll Contest

Both advanced craftsmen and beginners alike can enter their Dolls, Model Kits, Gunpla, Figure Kits and more. Any age can enter! Our distinguished panel of judges will decide on the winners in multiple categories. Awesome prizes will be awarded. It’s important to register before the convention for us to ensure we have enough entries. Items must be of your creation, but don’t have to be made just for this contest.

For rules and entry form, please see https://animeiowa.com/events/animeiowa-mini-festival-and-contest/

Have fun!

Special Appearance by The Pillowcases!

If you love FLCL or The Pillows, you will absolutely want to come see The Pillowcases as they perform your favorite songs from FLCL! AnimeIowa Abroad at Anime Central

Greetings!

If you’re still busy getting your amazing costumes and works prepared for AnimeIowa, we just want to remind you that there is no need to panic yet. However, if you’ll be going to Anime Central this weekend (May 20-22, 2016), then you might want to start panicking if you aren’t ready yet.

That brings us to some amazing news: AnimeIowa will be at ACen this year, and we have a booth in the dealer’s floor. So drop by and say “Hello.” Also, if you haven’t registered yet, we will be selling badges at our holiday rate of $40 at our booth, so you have one less thing to panic about before AI rolls around.

So whether we see you at ACen or at AI, we look forward to seeing you around.

New Iowa Requirement for Merchants and Artists

As of July 1, 2016, the Department no longer issues temporary tax permits. Merchants and Artists who used temporary permits in the past at the AnimeIowa Anime Marketplace must apply for a permanent Iowa tax permit. To apply for a permanent permit, complete and submit the Iowa Business Tax Registration form Form number 78-005 is located on the tax.iowa.gov at: https://tax.iowa.gov/forms/iowa-business-tax-permit-registration-78-005-0

A permanent tax permit allows you to conduct taxable sales or perform taxable services in Iowa at any time during the year. When you attend a temporary event, such as AnimeIowa, you only need to provide the Marketplace staff with your name and address, along with your permanent tax permit number.

The process is simple and you can start selling in Iowa as soon as you fill out the paperwork and either email, fax, or mail the application. You do not have to wait for the number to arrive. (Which takes around 6 weeks.)

There is no fee to apply and receive your Iowa Sales Tax ID number.

Thank you,

The Marketplace Staff
