Anime Iowa is a family-friendly convention. Which means:
- As per this dress code we are asking attendees not to expose their bodies in a way that would be deemed indecent exposure by the city of Coralville and/or the State of Iowa, and to follow all state or local laws on dress.
- No profanity, hate speech, or graphic sexual imagery may be displayed on costumes or clothing—including ahegao and similar clothing styles. Grossly offensive outfits, uniforms, or any cosplay with the intention of heavy negative shock value will be asked to change out or risk expulsion from the convention. The use of hate imagery (Nazi Swastikas[Hakenkreuz], etc…) is absolutely forbidden. The usage of religious (Manji/Swastika/Sauvastika – the symbols of Hinduism/Buddhism, etc…) or cultural imagery which have not been altered for hateful imagery are permitted when worn in an authentic and culturally relevant context. The use of those symbols to perpetuate hateful intention is forbidden. Any tattoos, piercings, or other bodily markings that fall into those categories (including hate symbols) must be covered.
- Visible undergarments (tops and bottoms) MUST NOT be translucent, transparent, or in any way see-through. Excessively revealing clothing or costumes are NOT permitted. Garments are required to cover all areas that they normally would with a swimsuit, including full coverage of the nipples and areolae (regardless of gender). (Special circumstances are permitted; Head to Bridge for more details). Pasties and/or body tape will be required for all individuals if your costume exposes the nipple area, both of which can be provided at the bridge during Anime Iowa (limited quantity). Pasties are NOT regarded as full coverage on breasts. We ask for these as security measures and to give equal ruling for all individuals attending the convention. Attendees in excessively revealing clothing or costumes will be asked to change or risk expulsion from the convention. Attendees with external genitalia wearing tight fitting cosplays are REQUIRED to wear a dance belt properly
- For the safety of those with Epilepsy and other conditions where strobing or flickering lights may cause a problem: Strobing effects that emit a slow change (>1 sec per flash/ 1Hz) are permitted. Anything faster is banned, including at the rave.
- To avoid confusion with younger attendees, when wearing a cosplay in the vein of medical professionals, police detail, and other major professions, please be sure to have a visible sign marking it as a costume and not a legitimate uniform.
- Body paint MUST be sealed, dry, and non-transferrable. Spikes protruding from any articles of clothing cannot be sharp enough to poke yourself or other attendees. If you sit on any venue furniture and ruin it with any part of your costume, you will be responsible for all damage expenses.
- Conventions spaces have a strict shoe policy. Because of this all con-goers are expected to wear shoes in all convention spaces for safety and hygiene. Wearing shoes with any type of wheel are prohibited, as well as cleats. Per Hyatt dress code, flip flops and sandal adjacent shoes are permitted within the hotel, but be aware of the risk of feet being stepped on. The upper back patio is included within convention space, so please keep that in mind.
